PLO’s mainstream Fateh faction on Wednesday called for a general strike and a day of "special escalation" against Israel in the Gaza Strip on Thursday, a sign that the deadly violence in the territories is likely to rage on.
"Tomorrow (Thursday) there is to be a general strike across the Gaza Strip in honor of the martyrs and a day of special escalation against the Israeli occupation," Fateh officials announced over loudspeakers at Gaza City funerals for four Palestinians killed in clashes with Israeli soldiers the day before.
Fateh and its militia are blamed by Israel for stoking the violence across the Palestinian territories that has left more than 160 people dead over more than a month.
