A bomb exploded at dawn Tuesday in the center of the Yemeni capital, blowing in front of the civil aviation headquarters, police sources told AFP

No one was reported hurt in the 6:00 a.m. (local time) explosion of TNT although neighboring shop and house windows were blown in and an empty, parked tourist bus destroyed.

The explosion was also not far from the intelligence services offices.

A hitherto unknown group calling itself "Sympathizers of the al-Qaeda Organization," the network headed by Osama bin Laden, claimed responsibility on April 12th for a series of recent explosions in Yemen.

It also threatened to carry out suicide bombings unless authorities release 173 militants said to be members of Osama bin Laden's Al-Qaeda network.

The group claimed it was behind an April 4th blast near Yemeni intelligence headquarters in Sanaa and two attempted bomb attacks against the homes of intelligence officers.

Following the September 11 attacks on the United States blamed on Osama bin Laden, Yemen launched a crackdown on outlaws and suspected members of the al-Qaeda network. (albawaba.com)
