Europe will help rebuild Serbia's transport system, a priority after sanctions are lifted, European Investment Bank (EIB) Philippe Maystadt said Monday.

"The priorities are in the area of transport infrastructure. Roads and motorways must be repaired, and the railways allowed to operate properly," he told France Info radio.

"They need functioning telecommunications networks. We will be taking steps in all these areas," he said.

The EIB was created in 1958 to finance long-term investments in European countries -- PARIS(AFP)
