The establishment of the Mohammed Bin Rashid school of communication at AUD

Following the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Prime Minister and Vice-President, and Ruler of Dubai, The American University in Dubai is proud to announce the establishment of The Mohammed Bin Rashid School of Communication, in collaboration with the University of Southern California.

Mr. Elias Bou Saab, the Executive Vice President of the American University in Dubai, explained that the School will start its classes in September for the academic year 2008 - 2009. “The American University in Dubai has been working relentlessly, alongside media specialists in the United States and some of the exceptional American Universities in the state of California, on developing the School’s curriculum. The curriculum offers an unsurpassed quality of education in the different fields of Journalism, Radio/TV/Cinema Studies and New Media subfields,” he added.

The focal point of the School’s mission is to educate journalists with an outstanding command of the Arabic language to bridge the gap undermining the Arab media sector. AUD has established contractual relationships with a number of media professionals in the academia, and is currently seeking the establishment of such consensual agreements with linguists specialized in the Arabic language.

Mr. Bou Saab asserted that one of the School’s distinctive measures is set by the generosity of His Highness who has pledged to confer scholarships on 75% of the distinguished students who meet the admissions requirements of the School. The scholarships will also cover the housing for expatriate Arab students.

Dr. Jihad Nader, Provost and Chief Academic Officer commented: “with the establishment of the Mohammed bin Rashid School of Communication another chapter is added to the remarkable success story of AUD; an ongoing ascent as a premier institution of higher learning in the GCC region. I have the privilege of leading AUD's continuing pursuit of academic excellence and look forward to extending my support and encouragement to this new school”.
