ALBAWABA- Syrian and Russian forces have ramped up airstrikes on Idlib and Aleppo, countering recent advances by opposition fighters in Syria's protracted civil war.

In a significant development, Syrian opposition forces have taken control of Al-Nayrab military airport in Aleppo during their latest offensives.

This strategic advancement marks a key point in the ongoing conflict as opposition groups, led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), continue to push back against government forces.

In a related incident, The UN Security Council will hold an emergency meeting on Tuesday to address the escalating situation in Syria, according to diplomatic sources.

The meeting comes amid intensifying clashes and heightened tensions across the region, prompting urgent international discussions on potential solutions to the crisis.

Monday’s raids mark a response to significant territorial gains made by a coalition of opposition groups led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), which have shifted the frontline dynamics.

While the pace of the opposition's advance has slowed, fighters remain positioned near Hama and have seized control of much of Tel Rifaat, where Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) are calling for a humanitarian corridor.

Amid the intensifying conflict, Iran-backed militias from Iraq have bolstered the Syrian military’s defenses, joining efforts to repel the opposition.

Meanwhile, Iranian and Russian leaders reiterated their unwavering support for President Bashar al-Assad, with Iranian officials underscoring plans to provide military and advisory assistance.
Diplomatic activity has also surged. Iranian and Turkish officials have engaged in discussions, with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan emphasizing the need for compromise between the Syrian government and the opposition.

However, tensions persist, as President al-Assad accuses opposition forces of serving U.S. and Western interests aimed at reshaping the region.

While Turkiye dismissed claims of foreign interference, regional narratives remain deeply divided, highlighting the complexities of achieving stability in Syria as its war approaches yet another turning point.
