Emir of Qatar’s wife appointed UNESCO special envoy

The wife of Qatar's emir, Sheikha Mozah bint Nasser Abdullah al-Misnad, has been named a special envoy for the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, the UN body announced on Monday. 

 

During a ceremony at UNESCO's Paris headquarters on Monday, Director General Koichiro Matsuura appointed Sheikha Mozah to serve as Special Envoy for Basic and Higher Education. 

 

Matsuura hailed her "tireless action" which has "helped make Qatar a regional center of and a home to prestigious and high-quality educational institutions," according to a statement issued by the organization. 

 

On her part, Sheikha Mozah, who serves as president of the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, said she would pay special attention to advancing education for women and girls throughout Arab countries. (Albawaba.com)
