An elderly man was killed and another man injured in a popular horse race on the main street of the small town of Tolfa, north of Rome, hospital officials said Monday.
The race, organized Sunday to honor the town's patron saint, took an ugly twist when a horse slipped causing a following horse to veer and crash into a protective fence.
An 85-year-old man, Franco Parigiani, was killed and 33-year-old Marco Vittori seriously injured in the incident. Both men had been watching the race from behind the fence.
Vittori was still in hospital Monday with serious head injuries -- ROME (AFP)
