Eight people died and seven others were injured when the walls of a quarry in which they were excavating building stones in the Somali capital collapsed early Wednesday, relatives of the victims said.
"The bodies of those who died remain buried," said Ahmed Hassan, who lost a relative in the accident. The accident happened in the Halimo-Heyte beach area of north Mogadishu.
An AFP reporter who visited the scene of the accident said volunteer rescuers were using earthmovers in a bid to recover the bodies.
"We presume the eight people inside are dead. But we want to bring them out for honorable burials," Hassan said.
The injured were being treated in several hospitals in north Mogadishu -- MOGADISHU (AFP)
