Eight civilians were shot dead late Wednesday by unknown assailants who raided their home in Egypt's North Sinai Al-Arish city, MENA state news agency reported.

Security and medical sources told the state news agency that the unknown assailants raided a house in Al-Batal district in Al-Arish city and shot everyone present in the house.

The attack resulted in the death of eight people, one of which was a young girl, while another individual was injured.

Security sources claim that the killing of the eight individuals was due to conflicts between families.

Al-Arish is at the center of ongoing fighting between Egyptian armed forces and Islamist militants Ansar Beit Al-Maqdis.

The majority of attacks carried out by Ansar Beit Al-Maqdis are reported to have targeted security personnel.

Fighting between the Egyptian armed forces and Islamist militants has intensified in the past two years, with hundreds killed from both camps.
