Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood said on Wednesday it will reject an offer to join a new interim government, a week after the country’s elected President Mohamed Morsi was ousted by the army.
“We do not deal with putchists. We reject all that comes from this coup,” said Tareq al-Morsi, a spokesman for the Islamist group.
Egypt’s interim prime minister on Wednesday is set to start work forming a cabinet after the army overthrew Morsi, who hails from the Muslim Brotherhood.
The official MENA news agency quoted a source saying that Hazem el-Beblawi, appointed on Tuesday as interim prime minister, plans to extend an olive branch to the Muslim Brotherhood by offering members cabinet posts.
The conciliatory move was rejected by the Brotherhood which has vowed to keep up street protests until Mursi is reinstated.
