Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak has called for a meeting of parliament this weekend to make urgent changes to election laws after a court ruled them unconstitutional, reported the BBC.online.
The Supreme constitutional court said on Saturday that only members of the judiciary could head the committees in charge of polling booths in the parliamentary elections, added the BBC.
Under the old system, civil servants have been overseeing the committees.
Opposition leaders and civil rights activists who have been campaigning for independent supervision of the elections have praised the ruling, said the BBC - Albawaba.com
