An Egyptian man was beheaded and his teenage son shot dead late Monday in the Sinai, where Egypt is battling a Daesh-led insurgency, AFP reported.

"The man's decapitated body and his son's body were brought to hospital on Monday night. His son was shot in the head," a medic said.

According to security officials and medics, the father and son were killed in the North Sinai town of al-Arish, however, no group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

Militants from the Egyptian affiliate of Daesh, "Sinai Province," have beheaded several people, posting graphic pictures of the killings online and accusing the of spying for the Egyptian army.

Similar killings occurred a few weeks ago when the Daesh-affiliated group posted pictures online of two men, also killed for allegedly spying.

The "Sinai Province" group has waged an insurgency since 2013 which has killed hundreds of soldiers and policemen and occasionally targeted tourists.
