Egyptian prosecutors on Thursday ordered the release of activist Saadeddin Ibrahim and four colleagues on bail, ending over a month of detention.
State security chief prosecutor Hisham Saraya said the investigation was still underway and that the attorney general had slapped travel ban on Ibrahim and his accountant Nadia Abdel Nur.
"Investigations into the case are continuing and the decision to free the accused is not in contradiction with the completion of the investigation," Saraya said.
Ibrahim was ordered released on bail of 10,000 Egyptian pounds (around 3,000 dollars) while Abdel Nur, the Sudanese accountant of Ibrahim's Ibn Khaldun Center for democracy and human rights, was given 5,000 pounds bail.
Three others being held in the case were released on bail ranging between 500 and 1,000 pounds.
Ibrahim and Abdel Nur were arrested June 30th and accused of receiving illegal funding from abroad, forging voter registration cards and tarnishing Egypt's image - CAIRO (AFP)
