Egypt and Israel agreed on Thursday to exchange prisoners in a deal that sends convicted Israeli spy Ouda Tarabin back to Tel Aviv in exchange for the release of a number of Egyptians in Israeli jails.

Ouda Tarabin, 34, has served his 15-year jail sentence, Egypt's state television reported.

Tarabin, an Arab Bedouin from the Negev Desert in Israel, was arrested in 2000 and convicted of spying after illegally crossing the Egypt-Israel border.

Two Egyptians prisoners in Israeli jails were released as part of the exchange and an unspecified number of others may also be freed.
