Egyptian army chief Abdel Fattah al-Sisi made calls Tuesday for a "quick political transition" to restore stability in the country, according to Reuters.

Sisi's comment while speaking to soldiers and policemen, follows Egyptian Foreign Minister's Nabil Fahmy's statement that the transition should end "by next spring." However, Sisi seems to have suggested a shorter timeline, citing the  "size of the problems facing [Egyptian] society" as "necessitat[ing] speeding up the end of the transitional phase."

Sisi is considered responsible for directing the July overthrow of the former President Morsi that has led to subsequent clashes and unprecedented violence in the country since the installment of the transitional government.
