Gunmen on Wednesday detonated an explosive device in an Egyptian military intelligence office in Rafah in north Sinai causing serious damage but no casualties.

An Egyptian security source told Ma’an that the building which was targeted served as an office for Bedouin affairs dealing with Bedouin tribes in the area. The building is located near the Unknown Soldier Square in Rafah.

The source highlighted that the main headquarters of Egyptian military intelligence in Rafah was attacked with explosive devices three weeks ago.

Separately, a military group identified as Ansar Beit al-Maqdis claimed responsibility Wednesday for an attack with a booby-trapped car against the south Sinai's main police station in al-Tur city three days ago. Three police officers were killed in the attack, and more than 50 were injured.

Egyptian forces announced Tuesday that seven “dangerous” gunmen were arrested including a “terrorist” identified as Karim Nakhlawi who is suspected of killing a police officer in el-Arish, attacks against Egyptian troops in Sinai, and training Jihadists in Rafah and Sheikh Zuweid.
