More than 220 protestors in Egypt were sentenced up to seven years in prison for "instigating violence" and "holding protests without a permit," according to the Associated Press Tuesday.
All the verdicts were issued from Alexandria-based courts Tuesday for the 220 individuals, most of whom are supporters of the former ousted Islamist president Mohammed Morsi.
The 220 includes former Islamist policymaker, Sobhi Saleh, who is one of 134 of the sentenced who is also fined $7,000 in addition to their prison sentences.
Egypt also appointed a new Prime Minister Tuesday, Mubarak-era Housing Minister Ibrahim Mehlib after the government resigned earlier this week.
Mehleb replaces Hazem El Beblawi who resigned from his leadership post Monday.
