Agence France-Presse reported Sunday that 155 people arrested during clashes in the capital in October were acquitted in Cairo's misdemeanor court Saturday.
The group was charged for assaulting policeman and acts of vandalism during the October 6 clashes that left almost 50 people dead.
Alexandria courts also released 21 female prisoners Sunday who were originally charged for their participation in local protests. The acquittal decision included 14 women who were originally sentenced to 11 years in jail for their protest activity.
Over 1,000 people have been killed and thousands more arrested since former president Mohammed Morsi's oust in July as part of the interim government's nationwide crackdown on Islamists in the country.
