Egyptian authorities shut down the Muslim Brotherhood's Cairo-based Freedom and Justice newspaper Wednesday, according to Reuters.

The shutdown of the newspaper follows Monday's court decision to ban the Brotherhood's activities in Egypt as part of a nationwide crackdown on Islamist activity in the country, despite government statements Tuesday that suggested that such actions would not take place immediately.

Police entered and raided the newspaper headquarters overnight. Many of the journalists working for the paper have been forced to work in hiding to avoid arrest according to the report.
