Suspected militants set off three small bombs outside the home of a judge who sentenced alleged Muslim Brotherhood supporters to death, AFP reported Sunday, wounding four people.

Police said Judge Mutaz Khafagi was in his first-floor apartment in Cairo when the blasts occurred but was not injured.

Khafagi had sentenced 12 men to death in August over charges of killing a police general in Kerdasa, near Cairo, during a government crackdown of Mohammed Morsi supporters.

A police officer said security caught one of the suspects who had planted a bomb, while the other escaped and detonated the bombs remotely. The official said the explosions damaged Khafagi's apartment building and broke the windows of three cars parked nearby.

A health ministry official said one of the wounded civilians was taken to a hospital with a neck injury, while the other three had minor wounds.

Extremists have said their actions are in retaliation of government crackdowns of Brotherhood supporters that have left hundreds dead and thousands imprisoned, according to AFP.
