At least 12 people, including two children, were killed and 16 wounded when a building collapsed in Egypt's coastal city of Alexandria. The toll from Tuesday's incident rose from eight to 12 Wednesday after four more bodies were found in the site.

According to AFP, several people were still trapped under the rubble of the six-storey building and rescue teams were looking for survivors.

A five-year-old boy was rescued early Wednesday. Among those believed to be caught under the wreckage was a senior official from Egypt's intelligence services, who was visiting relatives.

The building in eastern Alexandria was originally three floors high but another three stories were added illegally.
