Egypt and the European Union will sign a long-awaited partnership pact on June 25 in Luxembourg, reported Al Ahram daily on Monday.

The Egyptian side will be represented by Foreign Minister Ahmed Maher, while the EU will be presented by a “European minister,” said the paper.

Present also will be EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana.

Following the signing, the Egyptians will review the pact for approval, and at a later stage, their Parliament will endorse it.

A similar process will be carried out by the 15 European countries, said Al Ahram.

The EU is Egypt's main trading partner, accounting for $9 billion out of its total foreign trade volume of $24 billion in June 2000, said the paper - Albawaba.com
