ALBAWABA - Egypt has issued a warning to Israel, cautioning against the potential dire consequences of launching a military operation in Rafah, a city situated in the southern part of the Gaza Strip.

Concerns have been raised by Denmark and the Netherlands regarding Israel's possible assault on Rafah, which is home to over a million Palestinians.

In a statement shared from Denmark's Ministry of Foreign Affairs' X account, a message from Josep Borrell, the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, dated Friday, February 9, was circulated. Borrell's message highlighted the plight of 1.4 million Palestinians currently residing in Rafah, facing starvation with no safe havens. He expressed alarm over reports of potential Israeli attacks, emphasizing the humanitarian crisis that would worsen with such actions.

Denmark and the EU underscored their concerns about safeguarding civilians in Rafah, where a significant portion of Gaza's population seeks refuge.

The World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, voiced deep concern over reports of Israel's plans to evacuate Palestinians from Rafah in southern Gaza to escalate its ground offensive.

Ghebreyesus shared his apprehensions regarding Israel's evacuation strategy for Rafah on the X social media platform. He emphasized that implementing such plans could have devastating consequences for the 1.4 million residents who lack alternative shelter options and have limited access to healthcare services.

Pointing out that hospitals in Rafah are already overwhelmed, Ghebreyesus highlighted the dire situation, with most hospitals in the Gaza Strip operating with restricted capacity or being non-functional.
