ALBAWABA - President Joe Biden's announcement of the Rafah Border Crossing's reopening has the potential to alleviate the escalating humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

In a pre-meeting statement prior to discussions with Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, and Charles Michel, President of the European Council, President Joe Biden of the United States has conveyed his belief that the Rafah Border Crossing in Egypt will open, allowing the passage of the first 20 trucks within 24 to 48 hours. This announcement arrives against the backdrop of the 14th day of the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict, with the Gaza Strip grappling with an escalating humanitarian crisis.

As the conflict persists, Israel's cutoff of fuel, electricity, and water supplies to Gaza, followed by obstructing the delivery of much-needed humanitarian aid, exacerbates the dire circumstances for Palestinians. The urgency to reopen the Rafah Border Crossing in Egypt to facilitate the passage of humanitarian supplies grows by the day.

President Biden noted that he had received commitments from Israeli authorities and the President of Egypt regarding the opening of the passage. He also acknowledged the need for repairs to the road leading to the border and expressed optimism that within the next 24 to 48 hours, a convoy of 20 trucks would be able to traverse the Rafah Border Crossing. This statement comes as the international community continues to focus on resolving the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Gaza.
