The Egyptian parliament received on Saturday an urgent letter from the government denying as baseless reports that Israel has contributed financially to building the Library of Alexandria.
Cited by the London-based Asharq Awsat on Sunday, Minister of Higher Education Mufeed Shihab told the lawmakers that only four Arab countries, namely, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Iraq and the UAE, have contributed money to the project, totaling $65 million, while in kind donations from Arab and European countries were worth 31.5 million dollars over the past decade.
Egyptian MPs have protested against the alleged Israeli contributions.
