ALBAWABA - Egypt rejected on Sunday efforts to form a rival government in Sudan, saying that these attempts hinder efforts to unify visions as war continues between the Sudanese Army and Rapid Support Forces.
The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement: "The Arab Republic of Egypt expresses its rejection of any attempts that threaten the unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of brotherly Sudan, including the pursuit of forming a parallel Sudanese government."
Cairo also urged "all Sudanese forces to prioritize the country's supreme national interest and engage positively in launching a comprehensive political process, without exclusion or external interference."
The war in Sudan kicked off in April 2023, between the army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), and left more than 20,000 killed and displaced about 14 million people, according to the United Nations and local authorities.
Sudanese politicians confirmed that the RSF signed a charter with allied political and armed groups during a closed ceremony in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, on Feb. 22, to form a “government of peace and unity” in territory controlled by the paramilitary forces.
