A student was killed on Tuesday in clashes between alleged Muslim Brotherhood members and locals in the Nile Delta town of Khayata in Damietta governorate.

The clashes erupted during the funeral of Abdo Farahat, a 22-year old Brotherhood member who was killed with birdshot earlier on Tuesday in similar clashes, according to Al Ahram's Arabic news website.

The violence began when funeral mourners attacked a house that they wrongly believed belonged to Farahat's killer, which led to clashes with locals and police, who fired tear gas to disperse the crowd, reported Al Ahram.

The killed student, Anas Naim, is related to a prominent Brotherhood leader in the town of Khayata, according to Al Ahram.

Damietta's security director Abo Bakr El Hadidi said that three Brotherhood members were arrested and were in possession of a bird shot rifle, a taser gun and a number of bladed weapons.
