Two more people have died from Ebola in Uganda, bringing the death toll from the disease since mid-September to 105, a health ministry statement said Saturday.

The statement said that two more patients died from the deadly virus in the northern province of Gulu in the 24 hours from 8:00 a.m. (0500 GMT) on Friday, raising the number of deaths in the region where the outbreak originated to 101.

The other four dead are from the southwestern Ugandan town of Mbarara.

Twelve new cases have also been reported in Gulu in the last 24 hours, bringing the cumulative number of cases to 318.

"We continue to receive reports of suspected cases from other parts of the country and these are being investigated promptly. So far, Ebola cases have only been confirmed in Gulu and Mbarara districts," the statement said -- KAMPALA (AFP)
