Dubai Municipality has found its way to reduce traffic jams and spare the people of the emirate getting trapped, sometimes for hours, at intersections.
The municipality launched Thursday a new service in conjunction with the Arabian FM network, updating the listeners of the radio channel - FM98.9 - on the traffic condition on roads starting from 7:00am.
The update will include information on ongoing projects which will help ease the flow of traffic on Dubai roads, the Gulf News reported.
The new system, which is regulated by a computer that automatically monitors the performance of major control systems at road intersections, helps the Dubai Traffic Department (DTD) achieve better results in reducing the traffic jams.
The director of the municipality's roads department, Nassir Ahmed Saaed, was quoted by the Dubai-based paper as saying that “the service will help people choose alternative routes to avoid traffic snarl ups and congestion.”
Saaed explained that “an official of the Dubai traffic control system will liaise between this system and the Arabian FM network.
“The new aired service will provide motorists and pedestrians with distinguished service," said Abdul Latif Al Sayegh, director of Arabian FM.
The auto-sensor system has been badly needed ever since many more intersections were built.
The municipality has introduced a new traffic light control system considered to be a revolution in the world of traffic flow regulation technology, which will help reduce congestion at intersections and the duration of waits at traffic lights, said the paper – Albawaba.com
