Officials at the Emirati city of Dubai are pushing for a unified GCC cyber law, reported the Gulf News on Sunday.
A sub-committee at the Riyadh-based General Secretariat for GCC States has already been formed for the purpose, officials told the paper.
Meanwhile, the paper said that the Dubai Internet City (DIC) had handed over the draft of the proposed cyberlaw to the concerned Dubai Government authorities for implementation within the emirate, before presenting it to the federal UAE Ministry of Justice, said the cyber city's CEO, Ahmed bin Byat.
The proposed law is already being circulated among DIC-registered firms, and is presented to newcomers at contract signing time, he said.
The law focuses on online transactions, their legality, security and net payments.
"We have used the model put forward by Uncitral (United Nations Commission on International Trade Law) on e-commerce for guidance. We took some time over it because we did not want it to contradict federal laws," he explained.
The draft, he added, was designed in coordination with a team of legal consultants.
A DIC arbitration committee was also formed to settle disputes between DIC-based firms, the official added – Albawaba.com
