Dubai’s electronic governance efforts draw praise at E-Leaders Conference in Netherlands

Salem Al Shair highlights Dubai eGovernment’s achievements with regard to provision of eServices

Dubai eGovernment has announced that the significant progress it has made in the provision of electronic services in Dubai was highly appreciated at the recently concluded high level OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) E-Leaders Conference in The Hague, Netherlands. Hosted by the Dutch Ministry of Interior and Kingdom Relations, the conference brought together the most senior government officials responsible for e-Government in each OECD member country, to discuss the future of E-Government – Agenda 2020.

Salem Al Shair, e-Services Director, Dubai eGovernment, who led the UAE delegation to the conference, highlighted the tremendous progress achieved by Dubai eGovernment in recent years in line with the vision of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, of creating a robust knowledge-based digital economy in Dubai.

“The E-Leaders Conference presented an ideal setting for government representatives from various countries to discuss strategic issues pertaining to eGovernance and its future, and more importantly, the event facilitated the exchange of best practices among participating governments,” said Al Shair.

“Participants at the conference were impressed with Dubai’s commitment to attain full eGovernment status, and commended the intensity of our efforts to transform the way Dubai’s residents and businesses interact with the government,” he added.

At the E-Leaders Conference, Dubai eGovernment focused on topics such as the importance of enhancing quality of public eServices and customer experience; increasing the adoption of public eServices through awareness and customer satisfaction; engaging the public for better governance; establishing an outcome and results oriented approach to meet customer needs and expectations; achieving high transparency and accountability in the public sector; establishing a proper governance mechanism at the entire government level to ensure high levels of alignment, cooperation and collaboration and developing requisite human, organisation and information capitals to achieve eGovernance objectives.

Dubai eGovernment recently revealed a digital adoption rate of a phenomenal 91 per cent of the more than 2,300 government services in Dubai. In 2007, Dubai eGovernment was presented with the ISO 9001:2000 quality certification and the 'Best eGovernment Programme in the Middle East' award.
