A man charged with cannibalism after being found under a Lagos bridge surrounded by body parts has been pronounced unfit to stand trial, press reports said Friday.
Clifford 'the cannibal' Orji, who has been in detention since last year, is suffering from paranoid-schizophrenia, psychologist Oluyemi Okunnu told the Ikeja High Court on Thursday, reports in several newspaper said.
Orji was held last February and charged with the murder of several persons unknown and with the murder of a woman, Awawu Lawal, and "misconduct with regard to her corpse".
Okunnu told the court Thursday "I consider him to be of unsound mental health and therefore unfit for trial."
At his one appearance in court last year, Orji admitted killing Lawal and others and then cannibalizing them, telling the judge "I eat human flesh like I eat potatoes" -- LAGOS (AFP)
