Damascus Radio on Monday stressed that despite millions of voices raised in European, American, Asian and Arab cities and capitals rejecting a possible US war against Iraq, Washington is determined to ignore world public opinion and the inclination of the majority of Security Council members towards giving the international inspectors more time.
In addition, the radio added that during the last three months, the arms inspectors have not found any weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.
In its daily political commentary, the state-run radio, quoted by SANA, denounced US National Security Advisor Rice’s “underestimation of millions of demonstrators around the world and in the US”, when she said, according to the radio, that the “US would soon give up the diplomatic method regarding the Iraqi issue and would continue the way it had chosen against Iraq”.
The radio made it clear that Washington is continuing with its military build up to strike Iraq, “neglecting the international inspectors job.”
Furthermore, the Syrian radio said that what the world had witnessed during the last couple of days may lead to a new active international situation, which coheres with Arab and world efforts to drop the US war pretexts and to abolish the “double standard policy” being conducted by the US.
According to the radio, this "double-standard policy" protects the United States’ strategic ally - Israel - from any international condemnation over possessing weapons of mass destruction, which pose the source of danger and aggression in the region.
The radio concluded its report by stating that the stance of rejecting war on Iraq, providing no facilities for such a war and the commitment to the international community principles was the message conveyed by the recent Arab Foreign Ministers Cairo meeting. (Albawaba.com)
