Damascus Radio on Saturday stressed that Syria had opposed the war against Iraq since the beginning of the crisis and emphasized the importance of commitment to the United Nations.

In addition, the state-run radio said that Damascus asserted the role of the United Nations due to its importance in dealing with the situation in Iraq on the basis of preserving Iraqi safety, integrity and sovereignty.

In its daily political commentary, the radio, cited by SANA, added that “Syria tried with other states to amend the draft resolution 1483 aiming at giving the United Nations a central role in Iraq and at ending the occupation there”. (Albawaba.com)
