The Daesh militant group claimed responsibility for Tuesday’s deadly suicide attack in Tunis on a bus carrying Presidential Guard personnel, according to a Wednesday statement shared by the group on social-media platforms.
The statement, issued on one of the group’s Twitter accounts, identified the bomber as Abu Abdullah al-Tunsi, a Tunisian.
Daesh described the attack as "a martyrdom operation carried out in the center of capital Tunis".
According to Health Minister Saeed al-Aidi, the attack killed a total of 13 people and left another 20 injured, four seriously.
The victims, all officers, were killed when the bomber blew himself up near a bus carrying Presidential Guard personnel in an area of the capital known to be frequented by police.
Following the attack, the Tunisian authorities declared a 30-day countrywide state of emergency, along with a curfew in the capital and in three other provinces.
