AFP reports that Daesh bombings in two Syrian coastal towns killed over 100 people on Monday.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), 53 people were killed in the city of Jableh and another 48 were killed in Tartus, with a total of seven separate bombings in the two cities.

Daesh announced responsibility for the attacks on its Amaq news agency, claiming Daesh militants targeted Alawites in the two cities.

SOHR director Rami Abdel Rahman said Monday was "without a doubt the deadliest attacks" on the two cities in the past five years.

Syrian state television released footage of a bombed bus station in Tartus, with multiple minibuses on fire. According to AFP, local Facebook pages in Jabeh showed images of bombed bus stations and a hospital.

Tartus and Jableh are  under Syrian regime control, and close to the hometown of President Bashar Assad -- whose family hails from the village of Qardaha, just 25 kilometers (15 miles) east of Jableh.
