The Khalil Sakakini cultural center in Ramallah has been seriously damaged by Israeli army operations, witnesses said Saturday.

The center included an art gallery and the offices of renowned Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish.

The center's director Adila Laide said the Israeli army had set off a charge by the building's doors, however said she could not confirm the extent of the damage because of the army-imposed curfew, according to AFP

However, an Israeli army spokesman denied that the building's interior had been damaged.

Housed in an old Palestinian mansion, it was a meeting place for intellectuals and the venue for frequent seminars and conferences. (Albawaba.com)
