US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice arrived Friday to Lebanon on an unexpected visit.
Rice has been in a tour in the region during she visited Jordan, Israel and Sudan. On arrival she went directly to visit the shrine of the former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafiq Al-Harriri. Rice held talks with the Lebanese senior officials regarding the latest developments in Lebanon and the bilateral cooperation.
"This will be an opportunity first of all to congratulate the Lebanon people on their incredible desire for democracy," Rice said en route to Beirut. Rice's visit comes three days after formation of a new Cabinet led by Prime Minister Foud Saniora.
"They keep pressing forward and they have now formed a government," Rice said, according to The AP. "I look forward to meeting and see how the international community and the United States in particular can be supportive."
