Signatories of the Kyoto Protocol on global warming on Monday approved a compromise political deal aimed at resolving main issues blocking the accord, the chairman of the talks, Jan Pronk, announced.
"I now declare this conference has approved this draft decision," Pronk said, as he banged down the gavel at a plenary session of environment ministers.
The accord was brokered after a grueling 25-hour marathon, for which Pronk was given a standing ovation.
Pronk said the deal's text still needed to be refined.
"There are a number of legal and technical points that will have to be adjusted," he said -- BONN (AFP)
