Clashes erupted Monday evening between Palestinians and Israeli troops in the West Bank city of Ramallah, reported the Jerusalem Post newspaper.

No injuries were reported, according to the paper.

The paper said that soldiers fired tear gas and rubber bullets at stone throwers at the Ayosh junction north of the city, adding that firebombs were thrown at Israeli soldiers in the village of Rama near Ramallah.

In the West Bank city of Nablus, there were reports that armed Palestinian exchanged fire with Jewish settlers near Yitzhar settlement.

Earlier in the day, four Palestinians were wounded in clashes with Israeli troops in the Gaza Strip near the home of a 14-year-old boy killed by an Israeli bullet the day before, reported AFP, quoting witnesses and medical sources.

Demonstrators were throwing stones at an army post near Rafah on the border with Egypt ahead of the funeral for Hosni Hussein al-Najar, who was shot in the head on Sunday, witnesses said.

Also in Rafah, an Israeli army officer was wounded when a bomb blew up as a military convoy was passing near Rafah, a military source said.

The convoy also came under automatic weapons fire when the bomb was detonated, and Israeli troops returned the fire, the source told AFP.

A similar incident occurred Sunday near the Jewish settlement in the south of the Gaza Strip, when a busload of settlers was targeted.

Israel's army chief of staff Shaul Mofaz warned Sunday that his forces would take the "initiative" in clashes with the Palestinians, while Palestinian President Yasser Arafat vowed the Intifada would continue, according to AFP – (Several Sources)
