French President Jacques Chirac denied Saturday that the European Union or France had asked to participate at an emergency Middle East summit in Egypt.
Speaking to reporters at the end of an EU summit, Chirac said the European Union remained available to participate in a Middle East summit if it was asked to by the parties involved.
But he categorically denied that it had sought a seat at the Sharm el-Sheikh summit, which Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak and Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat have said they will attend -- BIARRITZ, France (AFP)
