China’s President Ziang Zemin is scheduled to visit Tunisia on April 16th for discussions with President Zain el-Abedine Ben Ali on bilateral ties and the tragic situation in the Middle East.
Tunisian media sources quoted the Chinese ambassador in Tunis as saying that his country is playing a vital and distinguished role in putting an end to the Middle East crisis.
In addition, he said his country firmly supports the Palestinian cause, adding that the diplomatic relations established between Beijing and Israel would not be at the expense of the Palestinian cause, according to KUNA.
The Chinese diplomat added that Beijing had supported the initiative that was recently adopted by the Arab summit in Beirut and that it had called on Israel to withdraw its troops from the occupied Arab territories and lift the siege imposed on Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat.
Moreover, he emphasized this demand is "a request of the entire world community".
The Chinese official said in statements published in Tunis Saturday that a number of agreements would be signed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the financial, economic, cultural, land and air transport fields between the two countries. (Albawaba.com)
