ALBAWABA - Despite a weekend electoral loss, Catalan separatist leader Carles Puigdemont announced Monday that he will seek to create a pro-independence minority government in Catalonia.
Puigdemont told a news conference in southern France: "I think there are options for being appointed, and therefore to announce my intention to apply as a candidate".
"We can assemble a coherent majority. Not an absolute one, but a coherent one, bigger than the one the Socialist Party candidate can gather,". Puigdemont stated that he intends to run for leader in the forthcoming Catalan regional parliament election.
The Socialists won 42 of the regional parliament's 135 seats on Sunday, nine more than in the previous election in 2021, but still fell short of an absolute majority. Analysts believe the Socialists could form an alliance with the radical left Comuns Sumar, which got six seats, and the moderate independence party ERC, which won 20.
