Three people were killed Friday when a car exploded in the district of Abu Kabir in the province of Sharqiya, north of Cairo, said a security source.
The source told Aswat Masriya that head of Sharqiya security directorate received notification that a car had exploded in front of the entrance of the town of Ezbet Raafat in Abu Kabir.
He said the blast left four people dead. So far security forces have not been able to identify the perpetrators.
Security forces formed a cordon around the explosion site and combed the area to ensure that there are no explosive devices, the source added.
Sharqiya is the hometown of former president Mohamed Morsi, who was removed from office by the military in July 2013 one year into his presidential term.
The province is among 13 provinces gaining to the polls in the second phase of parliamentary elections slated for November 21-23 inside Egypt and abroad.
