Canon Middle East, a world-leading innovator and provider of imaging solutions for businesses and consumers, has pledged its support for computer summer camps being organized by educational authorities and universities throughout the region and overseen by ICDL GCC Foundation, the governing body and the certification authority of the International Computer Driving License program (ICDL) in the GCC States and Iraq, across the region from June 1 to October 31, 2010.

Thousands of students will participate in the ICDL computer camps this summer during which participants from all over the region in addition to entertainment activities will undergo extensive computer training in accordance to the globally recognised ICDL standard. By the end of this summer, thousands are expected to achieve the ICDL certification after passing official tests that not only affirm their competence in using computer and Internet but also showcase their resourcefulness, self confidence and responsibility as well.

Canon Middle East will be giving away valuable gifts such as printers and cameras in recognition of the highest achievers among the thousands ICDL candidates.

"It is important to establish socially-oriented development programmes such as ICDL at the grass roots. The youths are both the most active adapters and major beneficiaries of technology, which is why we fully support the ICDL initiatives to improve the IT knowledge and capabilities of the region's younger generation. We are honored to be contributing to the Gulf's growth into a knowledge-based society," said Anurag Agrawal, Managing Director, Canon Middle East.

At the heart of Canon's commitment to the world community is the belief that the company is helping build a better world for future generations. The ICDL summer camps complement this belief and support Canon's corporate philosophy of 'kyosei,' which envisions all people, regardless of race, religion or culture, harmoniously living and working together into the future.
