ALBAWABA - According to Israeli media reports, the Canadian Embassy in Israel will be evacuating the families of diplomats from the country, amid fears of an Iranian retaliatory attack.
Reports confirmed that Canadian diplomatic personnel will be evacuated to neighboring Jordan.
On August 3, Global Affairs Canada updated its travel advisory for Israel, the West Bank, and the Gaza Strip, warning Canadians of "the ongoing regional armed conflict and the unpredictable security situation".
The warning advises that military activities in the region may disrupt commercial flight departures and that the Canadian government should not be relied on for departure or evacuation.
Canadian nationals and permanent residents living in the region, as well as their spouses and dependant children, should ensure that their travel papers are up to date in case an evacuation order is issued.
On April 12, Global Affairs Canada issued a travel advisory for Israel and the West Bank, reducing it to "avoid all non-essential travel" later that month.
The upgraded travel alert was issued as a consequence of rising tensions in the region, including the killings of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Iran and Hezbollah official Fuad Shukr in Lebanon.
