A bus modified to run on liquefied natural gas exploded and burst into flames in Tajikistan, killing seven people and injuring 19, police said on Friday.

The cause of the blast, which occurred Thursday, was not immediately known but police said it was accidental.

Private bus operators often modify their vehicles to run on natural gas, which is cheaper than gasoline. Police said there had been frequent explosions involving the privately-installed natural gas systems -- DUSHANBE (AFP)
