A former senior British police officer was found not guilty on Friday of manslaughter in connection with the 1989 Hillsborough stadium disaster in which 96 football fans died.
Former superintendent Bernard Murray was cleared of two counts of manslaughter by a jury, which was still deliberating similar charges, leveled at a second senior officer, former chief superintendent David Duckenfield.
The private case brought against the two officers is the first criminal case arising from the tragedy at which 96 football fans were crushed to death at an FA Cup semifinal between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest on April 15, 1989 -- (AFP)
