Dubai: As a continuation to the ‘Let’s give the UAE a Bigger Smile’ campaign, Oral-B and Crest, the world’s leading oral care brands, have partnered with Dr. Michael Formenius who is the founder and owner of Dr. Michael Dental clinics and is leading in the field of dentistry and in prevention of oral disease through his mobile clinic. Dr. Michael’s Team is led by Dr. Christina Formenius who specialises in Paediatric dentistry and Mrs. Soraya Bardishiry who specialised in child psychology. The team is conducting thousands of dental checkups and oral hygiene educational sessions for school teachers, parents and school children.  The mobile clinic has covered Jumeirah International Nursery last Thursday completing check-ups of approximately 8000 children in 24 schools in Dubai during the academic year 2009/2010.

The visits are part of the campaign “Let’s Give the UAE a Bigger Smile” launched by the two brands earlier this year as a long-term initiative to increase the awareness and education on oral hygiene in the UAE. The campaign will not only offer free dental check-ups, but will also educate the community about the principles of oral hygiene. In previous months, the campaign has visited Deira City Center and Dubai Mall as well as labour camps throughout the nation, offering dental check-ups to residents and workers who stopped by.

“We are proud to have launched this initiative with leading Dental professionals like Dr. Michael, to provide not only healthcare but most importantly, education on the importance of proper oral hygiene. We believe it is important to establish a proper oral hygiene regime early on.  Research shows that it is easier to teach good habits at an early age, and is helps prevent cavities at that stage and lifelong.   We feel that the school tours are an excellent way giving the community a healthier smile for a lifetime” said Mohammed Ali Faruqi, Oral-B and Crest Brand Manager.

Over the past three years, Oral-B and Crest, in partnership with the Ministry of Health, have successfully organized an annual ‘Healthy Smiles Day’ community event which has seen over 5,000 people receive free dental check-ups and tips on how to maintain good oral hygiene.   The launch of ‘Let’s Give the UAE a Bigger Smile’ sees these community efforts magnified for 2010.

“We’re building on the success of our Healthy Smiles Day events by aiming high and delivering a long-term, sustainable campaign to really reach out to as many people as possible” stated Faruqi.
