The US administrator in Iraq, Paul Bremer, said that Wednesday's killing of four civilian contractors and five US soldiers west of Baghdad "will not go unpunished."
Addressing 479 new graduates from the Iraqi police academy in the capital, Bremer said Thursday "they have not died in vain."
Describing these incidents as "inexcusable and despicable," Bremer said "insurgents against the US-led coalition will not derail the march toward stability and democracy in Iraq."
"Yesterday's events in Fallujah are dramatic examples of the ongoing struggle between human dignity and barbarism," Bremer stated.
"Four Americans were attacked and their bodies subjected to barbaric maltreatment..."They violate the tenets of all religions including Islam as one of the foundations of civilized society."
Bremer referred to an incident in Fallujah, where Iraqi gunmen ambushed two four-wheel-drive vehicles Wednesday, killing four US civilian contractors before angry crowds mutilated the charred remains of two of the victims. (Albawaba.com)
